NUTTY ABOUT NATURE
“Sea Cowabunga, Dude” , MANATEES…..part 3
I have to tell you that I’m over-the-top in love with all these cute (there is just no better word to describe them) manatee collectibles. I have GOT to get one of these printed mana-tees. Not sure which color yet or whether I’ll opt for canoe or bike theme. I actually don’t do well with either of these modes of transportation, so that will not be a deciding factor. #klutz #dizzylizzy
I so want to get these socks for my hubs, but he will most likely thank me and leave them in his drawer for 10 years……so, maybe they will have to be mine.
I do know that he will wear this baseball cap which comes in several colors…..again with the choices…ugh ! I guess I could get one color for him and one for me ??
Quite conveniently, I know someone who is expecting, so I think one of these absolutely adorable onesie would be a great present!
Now, if you have a little girl, you may like to add a manatee hair accessory to her wardrobe. Actually, the metal barrette is great for adults too. Yes, you guessed it….I’m ordering one.
I’m taking a quick break and grabbing a manatee cupcake, cookie and (believe it or not) a manatee frothed cappuccino !!! Yum 🙂
The last thing I’m considering is a sterling silver manatee pendant. My taste in jewelry is very simple. I don’t like a lot of goop (i.e. Rhinestones, gems, a clutter of diamonds etc.). A single, unadorned diamond, sapphire, emerald in a classy setting is my cup of tea. A strand of pearls (cultured or freshwater) and a pair of pearl, diamond, gold or silver studs are my go to adornments for a bit dressier look, but on most of my jeans and a tee days, I’ll wear my silver sea turtle and freshwater pearl necklaces (both on delicate leather cords).
When I do opt for another necklace, it has to be nature-inspired and SIMPLE. So that is why I love this little sterling silver charm. It can be hung from a charm bracelet (I do have one of these too, and although I love it, I always feel a little conspicuous with all that jangling going on) or strung on a leather or silver necklace.
If you have a new appreciation for manatees and would like to see them in action, I strongly recommend a trip to Manatee Lagoon in West Palm Beach. There are many other locations in Florida to see these adorable sea cows such as Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo, the Miami Seaquarium and Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium in Sarasota.
In addition, there are oodles of locations you can spy a manatee in its natural habitat, in fact, too many to mention. Please check out the website of Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for this info.
If you don’t live in Florida, check out your local zoo. There are some fabulous rescue and rehabilitation programs at zoos across the country….Columbus and Cincinnati Zoos and San Diego Zoo to name a few.
If you would like to make a difference, check out any one of these great non-profits to learn all the ways you can help.
Save the Manatee Club ( savethemanatee.org) where you can Adopt a manatee, View a live webcam, donate to rescue and rehab and shop for cute merchandise that helps the cause.
Defenders of Wildlife (defenders.org) where you can get involved in protecting manatees and all other Wildlife and plants in their natural communities.
Wild Tracks (public.wildtracks.org) to learn about their work with rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing manatees back to the wild.
